LOST and FOUND #45 (Permanent Collection at the Boston Children’s Hospital - Boston Mass, USA)
This striking wood sculpture is part of Karmin’s ongoing Lost and Found series, inspired by a pivotal moment watching Irish woodturner Glenn Lucas at work. As long, delicate wood shavings spiraled from the lathe to the floor, what was once considered waste became the spark for a new artistic vision. In LOST and FOUND #45, these once-discarded curls are lovingly collected, shaped by hand, and reimagined into a bold, textured composition that radiates movement and life.
Measuring 35 inches square with 9 inches of depth, this one-of-a-kind piece brings warmth, texture, and a sense of wonder to any space. The sculptural layers of soft, flowing wooden reeds create a mesmerizing interplay of light and shadow. Whenever possible, Karmin uses recycled wood for the backing, giving new purpose to forgotten materials. Finished with a UV-protective spray (though not recommended for direct sunlight), this ready-to-hang artwork is a true conversation starter. Custom pieces in different colors, sizes, or shapes are also available upon request.
